After playing in New England on Thursday, Nigel Bradham returned to Philadelphia to boost the morale of some unsuspecting children. Bradham was the surprise guest at a youth luncheon held for 12 residents of the Northern Children’s Services. Following the meal, Bradham took the children to a back to school shopping event at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Each child, ranging from 7 to 13 years of age, received a $125 gift certificate to purchase items to prepare them for the new school year. Northern Children’s Services representative Kevin Weber explained why this exercise is impactful in boosting love of school and long term positive achievement.
“These kids are getting a chance to get something new, to shop for themselves. They want to fit in the classroom. They want to feel good about themselves.”
The ultimate goal of the Northern Children’s Services organization is to focus on care and positive relationships in single mother families to build a stronger community, a mission that resonates with the Eagles linebacker.
“I was raised by a single parent and just having that feeling of empathy and your household is not full, so just that connection and trying to do things that I could have had as a child,” said Bradham.
