Injury Update: 8/19/18

Compared to other teams this preseason, the Eagles have been relatively healthy. Carson Wentz was cleared for 11-on-11 drills this week and could potentially start week 1 versus Atlanta. Brandon Graham also has the goal of being available for the season opener, which can help provide depth on the defensive line with Timmy Jernigan still recovering from surgery.

Despite a scare during his last play in the second preseason game, Nick Foles appears to be feeling better after a shoulder strain.

Foles was given a raise through a restructured deal this off-season and could find playing time early and often if Wentz is not fully ready by the beginning of the season.

Richard Rodgers is fighting the rookie, Dallas Goedert, for the second string spot behind star, Zach Ertz. Though Rodgers caught a touchdown versus New England, Goedert looks the clear leader for the second spot, and an injury will only make it more difficult for Rodgers to see any meaningful playing time this year.

Donnel Pumphrey has done little for the Eagles as he has seemingly never been available. After being selected in the 4th round last year to replace an aging Darren Sproles, Pumphrey appears to be having trouble transitioning from college to the NFL. This, coupled with the Eagles crowded backfield, means Donnel may not have a roster spot come cut day.

Another Eagles on the roster bubble is Bryce Treggs. Though he showed flashes versus New England on Thursday, many of them were tainted by his inability to catch consistently. Treggs could benefit from Alshon Jeffrey‘s injury as the position would be thin, but his roster spot could be in jeopardy with this new injury.

The Eagles travel to Cleveland on August 23, 2018 for their third preseason game.
