Mack Hollins Can’t Get Healthy and It Might Cost Him a Job

Once the offseason started, many fans and analysts thought that Mack Hollins might take a big leap this year and take Torrey Smith’s role as the #2 wide receiver in the offense for the 2018 season. Once the Eagles brought in Mike Wallace, the thought then became that Hollins would reprise his role from last season, and play outside whenever Wallace or Alshon Jeffery needed a breather. But now it sounds like he might not even keep that position.

NFL Insider Adam Caplan reported that Mack Hollins is recovering from sports hernia surgery performed this offseason, which is why he hasn’t been making any noise in OTAs and training camp, also failing to play a preseason snap so far.

With the recent explosion of Shelton Gibson, it now appears that Gibson might take over Hollins’ role as the receiver who will take reps outside when Jeffery or Wallace need rest.  If that holds true, then that means Hollins would be slated as the #5 wide receiver on the roster. If Kamar Aiken or Markus Wheaton start making plays in these last two preseason games, Hollins might be in serious trouble of losing his roster spot.
