Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert is the combo Eagles fans have been dreaming of for years in Philadelphia. Ertz is having an outstanding year being ranked 6th in league in receiving yards at 618 and also having 2 touchdowns. Being ranked 6th in Receiving as a Tight End is not as easy as it looks. The last time a Tight End was ranked 6th or above in receiving yards was Rob Gronkowski in 2011.
But Ertz isn’t the only Tight End producing for the Eagles this year. Dallas Goedert, the 6’5, 256 pound, Tight End has caught all but 1 of his targeted passes this year. the stats may not be as good as Ertz’s numbers, but it is still impressive for a second string Tight End. with 156 yards and 2 Touchdowns, Goedert is proving that he can be a solid Tight End in the NFL. His ability to make tough catches in traffic, and height advantage over any defensive back really makes him a threat on the field.
“We’ve got three very versatile tight ends,” Goedert said in the locker room on Wednesday. “Zach can play inline, he can play every position on the offense. [Perkins], he’s a lighter tight end, he’s more of the F tight end and he can play [other spots], so he can play all of the positions.
“That kind of leaves me as the true wide position so that takes a little off my plate, adds a little bit to their’s but it works out really well. Mismatches all over the field. We can go spread or go in a normal base offense and it kind of puts the defense in a pickle, whether to go dime, nickel or base [coverage], so that plays to our advantage a lot.”
When both are on the field, it’s almost unstoppable. instead of just having one big body that Wentz can throw too, he has two. having both of them on the field causes mismatches in the defenses, which forces smaller defensive players to have to cover someone who is a lot bigger than him.
The @Eagles have been most productive in the pass game this season out of 12 personnel with @ZERTZ_86 and @Goedert33 on the field.@GregCosell shows one way they are scheming Ertz open vs one of #DUUUVAL's primary coverages.#FlyEaglesFly #PHIvsJAX pic.twitter.com/FiEHI96w8l
