Eagles Officially Exercise Nick Foles' 2019 Option

Updated: Apr 20, 2019

Nick Foles has an interesting dilemma on his hands. Today the Eagles informed their back-up QB that they will exercise his 2019 option in his contract.

It was reported a few days ago that this move was expected. Briefly after that report came out, another report surfaced that Foles would be expected to pay $2 Million to the Eagles to grant him his freedom and become a free agent in March. In this scenario the Eagles could then decide to franchise tag Foles, then trade him to a team looking for a QB on a one-year deal.

Foles would rather have his freedom to potentially sign a long-term deal with a team of his choosing, but if he doesn't get to have a choice, signing a one-year deal worth over $23 Million wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

The Foles saga will continue to unfold in the coming days, as Foles will need to decide within the next five days if he wants to pay $2 million to the Eagles to void the option and become a free agent, or accept the option and be an Eagle (for the time being) at $20 million.
