During the last two practices Avonte Maddox has worked with the first-team defense in the nickle spot over Sidney Jones.
Maddox being slotted ahead of Jones, who is much better suited to play outside, makes another corner expendable. Considering the other talent at this position, developing an ambitious rookie to possibly then trade a starting corner could be a lucrative move. Unlikely, but possible.
No matter the plan, missing the roster is unlikely for Maddox. He played a special teams role at Pitt until his senior year and excelled in this role during the preseason game against the Steelers. Utilizing his versatility to possibly split time with Jones makes the team better in both the short and long term.
