There seemed to be a good chance that the Eagles would be able to retain C.J. Gardner-Johnson, but the chance of that reunion has sailed as he has agreed to join the Detroit Lions on a one-year, $8 million deal with $6.5M fully guaranteed.
The 25-year-old is coming off of a career year, grabbing six interceptions in just 12 games. He also registered 67 tackles (5 TFLs), eight passes defended, 1.0 sack, and two QB hits.
It’s perplexing that Howie Roseman couldn’t match that price, but now he must shift focus to adding another free agent safety.
Current free agent options still available include John Johnson, Taylor Rapp, Adrian Amos, and Jalen Mills.
As of now the only safeties on the roster are Reed Blankenship, K’Von Wallace, and Andre Chachere.
