During Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, a lot of fans were surprised when they saw an Eagles player wearing jersey number 83 on the field. When his name was announced, some fans even thought "who is Joshua Perkins?" Perkins is listed as the team's #3 TE on the roster, which means that he jumped over Dallas Goedert and was taking snaps that most fans were expecting to see Goedert take.
According to Doug Pederson, they consider Perkins more as a wide receiver than a tight end (he was a wide receiver in college). So when the team wanted three receivers on the field, Perkins was the third guy for Pederson. There has been criticism of Pederson for not using more two tight end sets during games, so that Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert could create some mismatches. At his press conference on Monday, Pederson discussed his formations, and sees a change might need to be made.
It sounds like Pederson is gonna be making the Ertz/Goedert formations a reality soon. Carson Wentz might have a lot of mismatches he can capitalize on in his return Sunday.
