Eagles and Carson Wentz Agree to Contract Extension

Updated: Jun 6, 2019

The long awaited contract extension for Philadelphia franchise quarterback has finally come.

The Eagles officially announced that they have signed Carson Wentz to a contract extension through the 2024 season.

Apparently the contract talks went pretty easy, as the team released some exclusive footage of the negotiations.

Four years is an ideal term for the Eagles front office, as it is a short enough term that they aren't locked into Wentz long-term if he ends up not being able to overcome his injuries. According to Over the Cap, the Eagles have $25 Million in cap space for 2019, so the team can definitely fit a massive contract for this season. However, in the years to come Howie Roseman will have to make some moves with some players currently under contract to make sure they have enough cap space to hold onto Wentz and other stars.

We should hear about the financial aspect of this new contract in the very near future.

UPDATE: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles are giving Carson Wentz $128 Million in the four-year extension.
