Eagles Bring Back Corey Graham

Updated: Apr 10, 2019

His jersey won't be selling out like that of Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox or Malcolm Jenkins, but one of the key members of the Eagles' defensive unit that powered through the regular season and playoffs has re-signed with the team.

Earlier this week, the Eagles signed safety and special teams contributor Corey Graham to a 1 year $1.715m deal, with $1.515m fully guaranteed, per Adam Caplan.

While only starting 1 game last season, Graham appeared in 14. Behind safeties Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod on the depth chart, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz often utilized the 6-foot Graham in order to move the integral Jenkins around the field and into the slot.

As well as 4 passes defended and 38 tackles last season, the 33 year-old Graham recorded two interceptions, one coming in the final quarter of the NFC Championship Game against the Minnesota Vikings. Perhaps his most memorable moment came as the "cameraman" for the Eagles' NFL Honors award-winning Celebration of the Year for their 'Electric Slide' following his interception against the Chicago Bears in week 12.

Graham won't receive the same level of media attention that follows other members of the defensive unit, but the veteran leadership, consistency and defensive scheme familiarity he brings to the table will be vital for the Eagles to "Embrace the Target". And on such a team-friendly deal, the Eagles really have nothing to lose.
