Eagles Release Fletcher Cox

Updated: Mar 18, 2022

In shocking move, the Eagles are reportedly releasing Fletcher Cox. However, the team could bring the all-time Eagles great if he doesn't get a big contract elsewhere.

Cox (2012 1st round pick) is the second-longest tenured player on the Eagles defense, behind only Brandon Graham (2010 1st round pick).

After 10 full seasons with the Eagles, Cox ranks:

12th in Eagles history in games played (156)

6th in forced fumbles (14)

5th in sacks (58.0) *most by a DT

3rd in Tackles for Loss (78)

2nd in QB hits (142)

T-1st in fumble recovery touchdowns (3)

In addition to those stats, Cox also earned plenty of accolades over the past decade. He was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, was a four-time All-Pro selection, and his six career Pro Bowl appearances are the most ever by an Eagles DT.

As of today Javon Hargrave and Milton Williams would be the starting DTs come Week 1, but a Cox return or a DT investment early in the draft can not be ruled out.
