Expect to See Avonte Maddox on the Field More Often

For the fans that wanted to see the Eagles move Jalen Mills from cornerback to safety, you're not gonna like this news.

At his press conference today, Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz was asked about his use of Avonte Maddox as a safety in Sunday's loss in Tennessee. Schwartz said that Corey Graham was on the field longer than the team wanted, and want to get Maddox on the field more often.

Rodney McLeod is listed at 5'11, 183 lbs, and Maddox is listed at 5'9, 183 lbs. For comparison for the fans who wanted the Eagles to either move Mills or Rasul Douglas to the safety position - Mills is 6'0, 196 lbs and Douglas is listed at 6'2, 209 lbs.

Mills and Douglas are the size of a generic safety for a prototypical system, but Schwartz seems to want a smaller, lighter and presumably faster safety.  Maddox ran a 4.39 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine, so hopefully his speed will be put to use in the back of the defense. He will be relied upon if Jalen Mills or Ronald Darby get beat deep.
