The start of the 2017 season hasn't been kind to the Eagles defense. After multiple 4th-Quarter collapses, the defense has been under a magnifying glass and being nit-picked for any mistakes made. There has been one bright spot on the defensive so far though, and it has been the season Fletcher Cox has been putting together.
We are halfway though the season, and Cox has already tied his QB hits total from last season.
His career-high for QB hits is 20 (set in 2015). He is on pace to shatter that personal-high. He is also on pace for eight sacks this season, which would be the 2nd-most of his career (9.5 in 2015).
Cox is slowly cementing himself as an important veteran leader on the field too. He has been trying to help the rest of the defense not take taunting penalties, and keeping the team in check.
Cox is showing that extending him to that 6-year, $103 million contract extension with $63 million guaranteed back in 2016 was well worth it. This offseason Cox said his personal goal for the season was to win the Defensive Player of the Year Award. If he keeps playing how he played in the first half of the season, Cox will absolutely be in the conversation for that achievement.
