Javon Hargrave Signs Massive Deal With 49ers

The Eagles have lost a huge part of their historic pass rush from the 2022 season, as Javon Hargrave has reached an agreement on a four-year, $84 million deal that includes $40 million guaranteed at signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 30-year-old Hargrave posted a career-high 11.0 sacks for the Eagles this past season. He also registered 16 quarterback hits, 10 tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries. He helped pace a pass rush unit that generated 78.0 sacks in 2022 (including the playoffs) -- the third most in NFL history (1984 Bears had 82.0 sacks, 1985 Bears had 80.0 sacks).

In three seasons with the Eagles, Hargrave registered 23.0 sacks (26th-most in franchise history), 161 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 42 QB hits (10th-most in Eagles history), two passes defended, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 48 games (44 starts).

It’s a big loss for the Eagles, who take pride in their depth on the defensive line. Currently, the only other defensive tackles on the roster are Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, Marlon Tuipulatu, and Marvin Wilson. There’s still a chance the team could bring back Fletcher Cox, but as it stands the Eagles might be adding drafting another defensive tackle through the draft or signing a veteran later in free agency.
