Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood combined for 94 rushing yards and a TD on 29 carries. Not a bad night for the duo in a much needed win against the New York football Giants on Thursday Night Football. This was the type of offensive performance that everyone has been waiting for and the ground game did not disappoint.
Before the game, Clement told GM Howie Roseman, regarding the rumors of him looking to add a RB via trade or free agency, “We don’t need to look on the outside, we know what we have on our team”.
Howie’s response? “Make me believe that we don’t need a back”.
It remains to be seen if last night’s performance has calmed the coaches and front office about the current RB situation. It has however shown that this offense can move the ball on the ground, especially when Doug Pederson makes a commitment to the run game. With some well-deserved rest until next Sunday's game against the Panthers, hopefully Darren Sproles will be ready to come back from his injury, which would be a welcomed boost to the unit.
