The Eagles were expected to lose some starters from their Super Bowl roster, and the first domino officially fell today as they have lost LB T.J. Edwards to the Chicago Bears.
Edwards and his hometown Bears have agreed to a three-year deal worth $19.5 million, including $12 million in guaranteed money.
The Eagles originally signed Edwards as an undrafted free agent back in 2019.
He recorded 159 tackles in 2022, which ranked 7th in the NFL and was the third most in franchise history (behind only Byron Evans, who had 184 in 1989 and 175 in 1992). He also registered 10 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, five QB hits, and seven pass breakups last season.
The 26-year-old has 389 tackles (20 tackles for loss), 13 passes defended, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, 5.0 sacks, and nine QB hits in 61 games (47 starts) in his career.
Now with an opening for a MLB and signal caller for the Eagles defense, expect second-year LB Nakobe Dean to be the favorite to take over that role. Dean was expected to be a first round draft pick last year, but medical concerns allowed him to fall into the Eagles’ lap in the third-round. Kyzir White might also re-sign with the team to ensure the Eagles linebacker core doesn’t revert back to its old ways of being the liability of the defense.
