An Eagles representative took the short drive down I-95 yesterday to attend the University of Maryland's pro day.
While there, the rep probably paid attention to these two prospects the most:
Darnell Savage | S | 5’11 198lbs
Savage was already brought in by the Eagles for a pre-draft visit, so following up by watching him at his pro day was a no-brainer. Savage, while undersized, has the ability to become a starting safety in the NFL. Scouts compare him to Lamarcus Joyner coming out of school. On film, you see his acceleration and ability to play off man coverage. savage is always moving and has that “high-motor”. He takes great angles to make tackles and does a great job of avoiding blockers to make the tackle. An added bonus, of his 7 interceptions between 2017 and 2018 – he has returned two for touchdowns.
Current Projection: 2nd-3rd Round
Derwin Gray | OT | 6’5 330lbs
Gray started in 3 of 13 games at left tackle his sophomore season. In 2017, Big Ten coaches named him honorable mention all-conference, and he was named his own team's top offensive lineman. He was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in his final collegiate season. All of his college experience has been at left tackle, so if the Eagles don't want to spend a high draft pick on a possible Jason Peters replacement, they could try using a late-round pick on Gray and see how he gels.
Current Projection: 5th Round
